Gain confidence camping in the great outdoors with your family at this specially-designed event to provide support for first-time campers.

Join up to 36 other families or groups for this event and take the camping plunge together, safe in the knowledge that the team from Outdoors WA will be there to help if you need it with setting up your tent, lighting your fire and to share their camping expertise, whilst providing a variety of camping activities to entertain you all, if you wish to participate.

You will also be offered a pre-camp education session at a local camping retailer on the types of equipment available for use and their application.

We'll be camping within Lane Poole Reserve which is close to the Murray River and has individual campfires at each camping site and a camp kitchen.

Over the weekend we'll have a number of friendly demonstration sessions running including:

  • How to setup and light your campfire
  • Camp cooking, learn to make your own damper and billy tea - all while toasting marshmallows
  • A visit from Ranger Red and his furry native friends
  • How to use alternative cooking sources
  • Family Nature Scavenger Hunt
  • Packing your day pack for your next adventure
  • The chance to build your own Bush Art Masterpiece.

The sessions are designed to give you an introduction to what camping is all about, have the kids enjoy their experience and to build your confidence in the skills needed to embrace the great outdoors.

You will also have the freedom to explore Lane Poole Reserve, or just relax and chill at the campsite. Plus, discover the amazing sights, sounds and experiences that a trail town like Dwellingup and Lane Poole Reserve has to offer.

Note: You will be responsible for your family at all times whilst on site.

This event is supported by the WA Parks Foundation as part of Spring into Parks.

Questions:

Do I need to bring my own gear?

Yes you do need to bring camping equipment, food clothing etc. We will provide you with a list of packing ideas.

We will also be running an intro to gear night at a local camping retailer before the campout.

Do we bring our own food?

Yes, there is a communal camp kitchen there for you to cook and prepare meals. The camp sites are not powered so therefore there is no electrical supply.

Can we bring our dog/ pets?

Sorry, no. We will have up to 37 families on this camp so we ask that you leave your furry friend with someone at home.

Leave the stress behind, step into nature and relax

Lots of local attractions to see

You will have plenty of time after the event on Sunday to explore what else is on offer at the magnificent Lane Poole Reserve.

There are a number of attractions that you can explore - we would encourage you to contact then before your trip. These include:
