Consultation: Survey of schools wild/ remote camping access

09-Feb-2017

Do you take school groups wild or remote camping; do you utilise expedition camping as part of your outdoor education program? Having issues? Then this survey is for you.

The recent meeting of outdoors educators in WA at Sacred Heart College in 2016 identified an emerging issue with the denial of access to remote camping sites (also known as wild camping sites) in the Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park and Lane Poole Reserve in Dwellingup.

Your input is sought to clarify the access issue, the impacts, and what you may be prepared to do to assist in finding an outdoor education based solution.

All outdoor educators and organisations providing remote camping outdoor education experiences please fill in the survey online via this link.

*Note: we have used the term remote camping as it aligns with current site management plan terminology. ‘Remote camping refers to camp sites where facilities are generally not provided and which may only be accessible by foot’ - Leeuwin-Naturaliste capes area parks and reserves management plan 2015

Outdoors WA supports the ongoing development of outdoor education in WA, and recognises the essential role that remote/ wild camping plays in the process for students to understand themselves, their community and the natural world around them for a sustainable future. The survey and responses will be considered by the West Australian Reference Group of Outdoor Educators (WARGOE) working group.

Thank you for participating in the survey. Your feedback and support is important.
