News - Adaptive Trail Hub supported by Outdoors WA

06-Sep-2019

ADAPTIVE TRAIL HUB, WA

Outdoors WA is proud to be a community partner working with Break the Boundary to build a WA first  - Adaptive Trail Hub.

Background

People with mobility impairments and disabilities can often feel trapped and limited by the built environment around them. Break the Boundary working with volunteers and community partners use adaptive mountain biking as a way for people to physically break their daily boundaries and experience freedom in the greater outdoors.  The social and mental benefits of being able to access the trails speaks volumes and does so much to help people recover and manage their trauma.

To help cater for the growing demand of people who are fed up with limitations of their daily mobility aids and disabilities, we are building a trail hub in the Perth Hills. The hub will be a accessible community area housing a range of adaptive equipment that will cater for a diverse range of people and families who would otherwise not have the opportunity to experience the the beautiful outdoors that we are blessed with.

A “ONE-STOP-SHOP” WHERE PEOPLE WITH (AND WITHOUT) A DISABILITY CAN VIEW AND TRY A VARIETY OF ADAPTIVE CYCLES AND OFF-ROAD WHEELCHAIRS WHICH WILL ENABLE THEM TO ACCESS PUBLIC TRAILS THAT HAVE PREVIOUSLY BEEN INACCESSIBLE DUE TO THEIR MOBILITY LIMITATIONS.

You can see full details at the project website here on how to get involved in supporting this wonderful initiative.
