News - Country Week Outdoor Education Forum

06-Sep-2019

The recent Country Week Outdoor Education Forum was a success with over 20 outdoor education teachers coming together to share their challenges and successes in providing outdoor education in the bush.

Peter Treeby from Northam Senior High opened the proceedings along with presentations from our executive officer Jamie Bennett and Dr Duncan Picknoll.

The topics covered included discussing the challenging environment that teachers are facing with policy changes, increased expectations for duty of care and demonstration of educational outcomes for the school community.

There was much collaboration between each group, with each person taking home some more ideas on how to ensure that outdoor education is supported in their own school.

Resource development

Outdoors WA is compiling the discussion materials and feedback and will create a resources that can be utilised by other schools.

It you would like to get a copy of those materials please contact us at office(at)outdoorswa.org

Thanks to Nathan and the crew from Compleate Angler and Camping World in Rockingham for also sponsoring the event with a WE Hiking backpack.

Country Week Outdoor Education Forum

Outdoor educators are at the cutting edge, often isolated, now is the time to gather together and support one another.

Outdoors WA welcomes outdoor educators to share their challenges and success in a collaborative workshop towards finding workable solutions.

Why attend:

  • Collaborate with other outdoor educators on finding solutions.
  • Share your stories of success and challenges.
  • Explore ways to support your school in delivering outdoor learning.

Peter Treeby invites fellow OED teachers to collaborate during Country Week as he shares his own challenges and opportunities providing outdoor learning in the country.

Peter Treeby  - Outdoor Education, Health and PE teacher at Northam Senior High School

Peter Treeby has always had a passion for being in the outdoors. Originally completing a Physical Education Teaching Degree at Notre Dame University, Peter then worked in a variety of fields before returning to Notre Dame to add a Major in Outdoor Education to his teaching degree.

Peter is currently teaching Outdoor Education at Northam Senior High School, where in 2017 he introduced ATAR Outdoor Education into the school. Peter is an Outdoors WA board member and is passionate about getting kids out into the great outdoors and introducing them to as many new experiences as possible. He gets a great sense of enjoyment in seeing the kids grow in confidence throughout their outdoor education journey.
