Thank you and all the best Jamie

18-Feb-2021

Jamie, Thank You for your strong advocacy, knowledge and passion for the success of the WA outdoors community and the environment. Thank you also for the 9 years that you have led and strengthened the organisation, especially through the tough times and navigating unprecedented terrain of Covid-19.

We know you will forever be passionate about the outdoors. No doubt your first stop will be a relaxing camping trip somewhere off the grid.

We wish yourself, Nicole and the girls all the best for the future and are sure that our paths will cross again soon.

Warm regards and much respect from The Board and Vari.

A note from Jamie:

Thank you for the opportunity to serve.

It has been my great privilege to serve the outdoors sector for over 9 years as the executive officer for Outdoors WA.
I would like to thank the many teams and individuals that I have had the chance to work with from all levels of the community and government.
It has been a great privilege to serve the outdoors community and to work on so many groundbreaking projects such as:

  · The Australian Adventure Activity Standards – developed over 5 years and with
input from over 100 outdoor experts.
  · Development and review of the National Outdoor Leader Training Package.
  · Identifying safety and accident data via the UPLOADS project
  · Transitioning the Journal of Outdoor and Environmental Education into the digital
     era.

It has been an honour to advocate for the sector to ensure the rightful recognition of outdoor recreation and outdoor education. Many will remember being called up on the write letters and petitions to keep Outdoor Learning in the national curriculum to Save the Camp Schools. It is worth remembering that our sector contributes over $1.06 billion to the WA economy and saves over $206 million in health costs each year.

However the real joy in my time has been in being a part of the outdoors community, in supporting the many clubs, schools, organisations and outdoor instructors to deliver safe and sustainable outdoor programs. It was a real thrill to initiate The Big Campout with The Fathering Project and see over 350 Dads and kids camping out at Subiaco and then Optus Stadium. With Outdoors October we were able to reach out to thousands of participants by showing that we could, as a sector, collaborate together.

I thank the many board members and volunteers that have shared in keeping the Outdoors WA dream alive and I look forward to a new adventure and to seeing you in the great outdoors.

Warm regards

Jamie
