A two-day instruction and assessment course for the Paddle Australia (PA) Flatwater Guide Award. The course covers guiding skills, refining paddling techniques, rescues, trip planning, group management and trip Leadership.
Pre-requisite requirements
Flatwater (FW) paddling skills as explained in the FW Skills Award
5 or more FW trips + 3 paddling activities as assistant, plus
3 paddling activities as lead guide in the previous 3 years
Course content
This is not a skills development course.
Candidates are expected have completed a Paddle WA skills Session or to have adequate paddling skills that just need tweaking.
This course will cover topics such as:
paddling guiding skills
refining paddling technique
rescues
minimal impact practice
interpreting weather and navigation
trip intentions, float plans and risk management
group management
