Workplace Learning for 2024
We’re really excited to share that SEDA college is going to be the newest addition to the outdoor education fold, launching an Outdoor Ed program next year. The college is now looking to place year 11 and 12 students on work placements with industry and is keen to connect with you.
Students are timetabled to complete workplace learning one day per week through the course of the year, starting February 2024.
The College has successfully run workplace learning programs with the likes of the Dockers, Perth Glory and Netball WA for many years, as well as more recently setting up a specific trade program with the building group BGC.

Getting more investment into training for the outdoors
This is probably the most important survey you can complete this year!
The Jobs and Skills Australia Priority List informs policies and actions by government to support industries. The current report says there is no shortage of skilled employees for our industry. This is not consistent with what we are hearing from you.
So, if you are struggling to get suitably qualified staff to fill positions please complete this survey now: Skills PriorityList – Stakeholder Survey (dese.gov.au)
NatCORR Survey Results
Last month we invited you to participate in a survey being run by NatCORR. The survey was designed to gauge perceived gaps in incident reporting, and heat & air quality management in the outdoor sector in WA. Key findings from that survey were:
Food Safety Legislation Changes
This month the Federal government is introducing new
Food Safety legislation. It relates to the standards that need to be adhered to by any businesses preparing food, so is likely to have an impact on any operators preparing food for their customers.

Top 150 Trails in WA
Our friends at Trails WA launched the 2023 Top Trails last month. Having run a fantastic consultation process with a broad-church, here’s the list of the top trails in case you missed it.
And if you still want to vote, they are running a “People’s Choice” promotion too.
Congratulations
Congratulations to the team at Off the Beaten Track for their win at the Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards last month. Great to see our Adventure Tourism sector getting the recognition it deserves.

The 496 Challenge
There’s a proven link between being active outdoors and positive mental health. Our new CEO, Neil Le Febvre, passionately believes in this and to lead by example, during December he’s doing the 496 Challenge to raise money for the Black Dog Institute.
What’s the 496 Challenge? Simple really. Run 1km on the 1st of the month. 2km on the 2nd and so on. After running 31km on New Years eve, he will have got to 496km for the month. If you want to support a good cause, you can do so here: https://www.teamblackdog.org.au/fundraisers/neillefebvre
WA Volunteer Service Awards
Celebrate volunteering in our community. The WA Volunteer Service Awards are an opportunity to thank and acknowledge volunteers who give their time and talents to support their communities. As a sector that has so many passionate people involved giving their time to help others, why not nominate a colleague or even yourself! Here’s the nomination link: WA Volunteer Service Awards (www.wa.gov.au)
